All aboard the Festival Express!

Hip Pop is taking over a TransPennine carriage

Festival season is here, and journeys are being planned as people are gearing up to see their favourite acts perform and create some core memories with friends.

With a rise in environmental consciousness, some people are ditching the motorway and opting for public transport as an alternative, aiming to reduce their travel emissions.

We are teaming up with TransPennine Express to celebrate the festival season and everyone travelling by train. We’re taking over a carriage and joining passengers on their way to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. You’ll find us giving away free soda to passengers on the West Coast route towards the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and crates of Hip Pop to some lucky winners travelling on any TransPennine Express train.

On most routes, trains are the greener choice, cutting carbon on 85% of trips

Festival season is well underway, so you may be thinking about planning your journey. Opting for greener forms of transport in day-to-day life is becoming increasingly popular, so you may be considering ditching the car this summer and using public transport.

According to Rail Delivery Group, carbon emissions are lower by train on 85% of more than 40,000 direct station-to-station journeys and on 93.76% of passenger journeys on those routes when compared to travelling by petrol or diesel car (based on the national average of 1.6 passengers per car).

Not so fun fact: Did you know that in 2023, cars and taxis accounted for 60.2 million tonnes of CO 2 e emissions, compared with just 1.6 million tonnes of CO2e emissions for rail, according to UK Government data.
